This Mother’s Day – Go from Priority to Priori-ME
May 11th, 2017

You work hard every day taking care of your family, your home, your work – but taking care of yourself is also essential. When you treat yourself as a priority you will feel better emotionally, physically and socially. In addition, you will possess more energy for the important work you do each day.

Take the self-care pledge…repeat after me…

I PROMISE TO:

  • ASK FOR HELP

Don’t be afraid, it’s ok to ask for help! It won’t make you a bad host/mom/friend – it will make you calmer and save your sanity! (you can rely on your partner, friends or family)

  • ACCEPT THAT I AM NOT PERFECT

No one is – that is unrealistic and you will set yourself up for failure every time.

  • STOP AND SMELL ROSES

Don’t RUSH through life and miss special moments with family.

  • TAKE CARE OF MY BODY

i.e exercise, eat healthy, sleep well, be mindful, be positive.

  • MAKE TIME IN MY DAY FOR ME

Prioritize – make sure what matters to you makes it on the calendar.

  • SET TIME LIMITS

Build time into your week – set aside the time for a task that weighs on you – e.g once a week sort through all mail, bills, junk, catalogs, magazines, newspapers etc.

  • SAY NO

It’s ok to say NO without all the guilt. You don’t have to be a people pleaser all the time – that is exhausting! You will disappoint some people along the way, but you’ll be happier in the long run.

  • DO 1 THING EVERY DAY THAT MAKES ME HAPPY/FEEL GOOD!

Take a moment for yourself; do something that makes you happy or brings a smile to your face. Even 30 minutes goes a long way.

  • GIVE MYSELF THE GIFT OF TIME

Hire a personal concierge, organizer, errand runner…

  • Lastly – HAVE A HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Post-blog exercise:

-Write down 3 tasks you wish you could take off your plate.

-Think about what you would do if you had more time in the day?
